=Kinsen stood at the edge of oblivion, dressed in his travel clothing. he carried nothing with him but the blade of black ice, Winter's Kiss. Standing in a secluded rock outcropping far away from Icehold proper, he looked out at the blowing snow and building storm, the grey sky lost in a white haze.

Slowly, he pulled the warm cloak from his shoulder, dropping it. Soon he stood, bare-chested in the blowing snow. His broad chest expanded with a sharp intake at the cold, his form criss-crossd with minor scars, a single black line in his flesh marking where AngelFire had entered him. Kneeling, he drove the blade into the snow and ice at his feet, losing his eyes.

He felt it then. The blowing snow began to contour around him. For long moments, it tickled and teased, soothing gently and brushing along his face. he felt the numbness began to spread as he gave himself to Winter, his new mistress.

And suddenly the caresses became tearing ice, burning along his skin like frostbite and cold fire. His eyes remained closed and his jaw clenched aggainst the pain as the ice and snow tore at his body cruelly. Winter could be gentle with her servants, but she was the essence of death and darkness. It pulled at him, forced its way inside of his mind. He felt his fangs, remnants of his vampiric hertage, pushing from his mouth again. He felt the scar from AngelFire Burning brightly in his chest, and suddenly he was flooded again with memories.

His worst flaws, his inactions, the cost of all he had done, was pushed to the forefront of his mind, seared with brutal honesty into his psyche. Winter would reveal to him the secret desires and fears, and losses he still repressed. He couldn't tell if he sreamed then, or if it was just in his head.

And then his eyes opened. Before his stood a woman in white, beautiful and harsh. He stood to meet her, and she approached, wrapping her arms suggestively around his neck, her very touch leeching what little heat remaind from his body; he remained standing from sheer willpower. A cold smile twisted her blue lips, and she leaned in conspiratorily, pressing her cold body to his.

"You are mine now, Kinsen." The whisper drifted into his head on the snow as she leaned up and spoke into his ear, her nails digging painfully into his back, her very touch causing ice to bloom in the tears from his silver eyes and the traces of blood from his skin. His new purpose was suddenly shoved into his mind's eyes. He saw the sacrifice he had made. "Welcome to the fold, my Knight of Winter."

She stepped away suddenly then, and rested a single hand on his chest, over the scar left by Jaric's blade. "You will serve. That is the price. Blood for blood. Your life for hers." The words were a twisted mockery of those he had spoken to Jaric, and he felt the twist and churn in his stomach. She smiled again, and laughed a sound like screaming blizzard winds and shattering ice as she stepped forward and pressed her cold lips to his. The world blew away then, and darkness enfolded him, and all he tasted was death and winter tears=
